Rebuilding your identity after this kind of job loss starts with a distinction that's easy to skip in the rush to find the next role: the job you lost and the sense of yourself the job was carrying are two separate things. They don't have to be solved in the same conversation.
A role you're skilled at does more than pay the bills. It gives you a place to be capable, a way to explain yourself at a dinner party, a daily structure that tells you what today is for. When AI absorbs the tasks that used to require your judgment, it can feel less like a layoff and more like a verdict on all of it. Write down three things people used to come to you for at work that had nothing to do with your title. Notice how many are still true. That list is a more accurate starting point for what comes next than any job board. If you want support working through that distinction with more structure than a private reflection allows, that's what identity coaching is for.
You don't need it fully sorted out before you apply for the next role. You just need to stop assuming the next title will answer a question it was never built to answer.
